Victoria Ngwada, Tanzania. Seeking Solutions and Dreams.

March 16, 2023

“Learning how to seek solutions to challenges has helped me the most,” she says.

In 2019 Victoria Ngwada heard about an opportunity that would change her life forever. While visiting relatives in a neighboring village in Tanzania, she learned that Solar Sister empowered women by providing them with the means to earn a steady income to support their families. Intrigued, Victoria contacted the Business Development Associate in her area and joined the program.

With training and support from the Business Booster program, Victoria started making money and planning for a better future for herself and her family.

“I want to build a better house for my family. I also want to ensure my children will finish school,” she shares.

With the extra income, Victoria has already improved her farm by purchasing compost and increased her maize yield.

Victoria’s impact extends beyond her own family.

“The solar lights we sell are a good product,” Victoria says. “They are durable and shine brighter than the ‘fake ones.’”

For Victoria, selling solar lanterns isn’t just about making a profit. It’s about educating her community about the dangers of kerosene lamps and the benefits of using solar power. Bringing affordable clean energy to her community.

“People were getting sick a lot from the fumes of the kerosene lamps,” she explains. “But once they understood the advantages of using a solar lamp, they purchased one. And they’re reliable too! My children use them to study with.”

However, Victoria faces a significant challenge: transportation. While she’s been successful selling door-to-door in her village and neighboring areas, she dreams of reaching even more customers. But the cost of transportation eats into her profits.

“I’m still trying to figure out how to solve this,” she says.

Despite this obstacle, Victoria remains optimistic. Networking and problem-solving have helped her overcome other challenges, and she’s confident that she’ll find a solution to this one too.

“Learning how to seek solutions to challenges has helped me the most,” she says.

With her determination and resourcefulness, there’s no doubt that Victoria will continue to shine as a Solar Sister Entrepreneur.
