Susan Njuguini Macharia - A Journey of Growth and Empowerment

August 29, 2024

In September 2023, Susan Njuguini Macharia made a bold move, transitioning from a restaurant job to becoming a Solar Sister entrepreneur.

Her journey began when she spotted Solar Sister products outside Kawangware Bank in Nairobi. There, she met Business Development Associate Leonida Wekesa and, intrigued, decided to learn more. Despite having no prior experience in entrepreneurship, the promise of training and the potential to create a better life for her family motivated her.

Working long hours at the restaurant, early morning to late in the evening, was becoming increasingly challenging, especially with a 10-year-old daughter to care for and earnings that barely covered the essentials. Solar Sister offered the financial stability and flexibility she needed to prioritize her family. By January 2024, she had grown from an agent to a full-fledged Solar Sister Entrepreneur.

What drives her? The ability to pay her daughter’s school fees, support her mother, and care for her family—all through her hard work.

“I relied heavily on someone else to take care of my bills and responsibilities, and it was very upsetting when it did not work. I have since gained confidence in leadership and even become a motivation to the rest of the women around me. It gives me pleasure to see my mother and my daughter comfortable with my hard work. I put in extra effort to get more clients every day.”

Her goal is to start her own business, possibly venturing into the restaurant industry. She also dreams of building a house for her loving and supportive mother while continuing to care for her family.

With Leonida’s monthly training and open-door support, she knows she’s on the right path.
