On World Earth Day 2026, Solar Sister joined partners and government leaders in Embu County, Kenya, to strengthen collaboration supporting women entrepreneurs in clean energy. The visit focused on improving coordination, expanding opportunity, and ensuring women in last-mile communities have the resources they need to grow their businesses.
We spent World Earth Day 2026 visiting the Embu County Government, Kenya, to strengthen coordination with key stakeholders working at the intersection of clean energy and women’s entrepreneurship in last-mile communities.
Recognizing that partners bring diverse strengths in both funding and implementation, Solar Sister, Practical Action, SIDA, Equity Bank, and Kingdom Bank emphasized that stronger county-level collaboration will improve coordination—especially for initiatives supporting women entrepreneurs in the clean energy sector.
For women entrepreneurs, this collaboration helps reduce barriers that often limit business growth, including access to capital, to start and run their small and medium businesses, products, markets, training, and visibility. These partnerships bring together resources that improve efficiency and expand support for women building businesses in last-mile communities.
The Embu County Deputy Governor, Hon. Justus Kinywa Mugo, reaffirmed the County Government’s commitment to working with diverse actors by providing an enabling environment for projects that support local women entrepreneurs.
Solar Sister representative, Finorah Manyala, expressed gratitude to the Embu County Government for its continued support, including partners who work with women entrepreneurs, creating access to markets through exhibitions during the government-commissioned local shows, and enhancing advocacy for clean cooking and women’s empowerment for social and economic transformation.
Practical Action, a long-standing partner, echoed the need to scale operations and develop stronger frameworks for collaboration among stakeholders. We also appreciate the presence of our partners, SIDA, represented by Ulrika Akesson and Line Rosvall, and ENERGIA, represented by Sheila Oparaocha.
The day aligned with global World Earth Day efforts to accelerate renewable energy, restore ecosystems, and promote sustainability through local action, education, and advocacy. By supporting women entrepreneurs in clean energy through collaboration, we are protecting the planet while advancing a more just and sustainable future.
