In Kisii town, one of Solar Sister Kenya’s most vibrant hubs, you’ll find Hyline Obiri, a leader whose dedication has left a significant mark on her community.
Hyline’s journey with Solar Sister began back in 2017 when she signed on as a sales agent (with what was then LivelyHoods Kenya). Fresh out of college with training in sales and marketing, she quickly realized that this work gave her a sense of purpose.
Over the years, her determination has been undeniable. By 2021, Hyline was promoted to Business Development Associate in Kisii. In 2024, she distinguished herself among 21 colleagues from across Kenya and was voted Business Development Associate of the Year. Then, in August 2025, she achieved another milestone by being promoted to Senior Business Development Associate.
What drives her success?
Ask Hyline, and her answer is simple: the women she serves.
“I am driven by the desire to see great positive changes in the lives of women in Kisii,” she says. “Thanks to the women I have been recruiting and supporting as a BDA, I am not where I was yesterday, and even tomorrow, I will be a better person.”
She’s helped recruit and support hundreds of women entrepreneurs in Kisii County, training them, cheering them on, and helping them grow their businesses in clean energy. Her work with women and clean energy has had an impact on the environment in the community.
The power of consistency
Hyline’s colleagues describe her as motivated, collaborative, and consistent.
- “She is goal-oriented and very supportive of the entrepreneurs that she supports,” says her direct line manager, Erick Matoke.
- “She is one organised BDA who has sustained the same Solar Sister Entrepreneurs that she has recruited, which makes it very easy to track their performance and thus gauge impact,” adds Business Operations Manager, Grace Mboya.
- Human Resource Manager, Chris Ondengo, sums it up simply: “She’s a true team player.”
A vision for tomorrow
“Everyday I leave the house with a goal to put a smile on another woman entrepreneur’s face and when I get back home in the evening, I carry with me smiles of success, of achievement knowing that the goal of the day was achieved.”
Her dream? To continue growing, with Solar Sister, with her community, and with the women she supports.
“Thanks to the women I recruit and support, I’m not where I was yesterday. Tomorrow, I’ll be even better. Solar Sister is about growth,” Hyline says. “Whether as staff or as entrepreneurs, every day we move forward together.”
