Editha Masongera has always had an entrepreneurial spirit. Editha spent over thirty years honing her skills in tailoring, designing hand-woven bags, and tending her small agricultural plot.
In 2017 Editha bought a solar lamp from one of Solar Sister’s first Tanzanian Entrepreneurs, Hilaria Paschal. Hilaria recognized that Editha was already a talented and hard-working entrepreneur and suggested that she join Solar Sister.
This really sparked Editha’s interest. Some years earlier, her grandparents’ house burned down due to a candle fire and lack of light.
“I bought a solar lamp for her, and now she enjoys the clean energy of light,” Editha said.
Editha decided that bringing clean, affordable light to her community would be rewarding and joined Solar Sister.
“I remember the day I started using solar products. My neighbors saw them and asked me where they were available. They began placing orders and buying.”
Her role as a Solar Sister Entrepreneur took her business pursuits to another level, and she said it made a considerable contribution to her business and to her personally. Editha’s confidence increased, and she improved in her role as a business manager.
“I was able to get more capital to farm more, then buy more inventory and sell more products,” she says.
She joined the Business Booster Program in August 2021, hoping to increase her business acumen and expand her business.
“I dream of becoming a big entrepreneur of Solar Sister. I am so proud when I see that my community has light.“

“The Business Booster program attracted me because it facilitates product loans. I can get a 100% loan for the products I buy and double my profit. I have become more confident, and the lessons like Business Analysis, Business Road Map, and Investing Capital and Profit have improved all my businesses.”
Editha has profited from using a smartphone, part of the Business Booster Program.
“It helped me to understand various things in social media platforms. I have been using training as an advantage by posting my product online and getting clients.”
Before becoming an entrepreneur, Editha rented her home. One year ago, she moved into a new house she built with the proceeds from her solar business.
Editha’s dream is to continue growing her solar business and open a business selling clothes.
Editha was featured in a piece on Solar Sister by Bittersweet Monthly. This week, we had the opportunity to reconnect with her and delve deeper into her story.
