Title:                    Country Manager, Tanzania

Reports To:     Chief Operating Officer

Location:          Tanzania 

The Country Manager, Tanzania, is a member of the Leadership Team and works closely with the COO and other members of the Leadership Team to advance Solar Sister’s vision, mission, and objectives.

Specifically, the Country Manager is responsible for the day-to-day leadership and effective implementation of Solar Sister’s strategy and priorities in Tanzania. The role provides leadership to the country team, oversees program and operational performance, and builds relationships with key stakeholders to support Solar Sister’s growth and impact in Tanzania.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Strategic and operational leadership 

  • Implement Solar Sister’s Tanzania strategy and annual priorities in collaboration with the COO 
  • Lead day-to-day country operations and ensure delivery of impact.
  • Identify and address operational challenges and opportunities

2. Team leadership 

  • Lead, support, and develop the Tanzania team to deliver strong performance 
  • Set clear expectations, promote accountability, and foster positive team culture 
  • Support staff performance, development and retention

3. Financial & Compliance Management

  • Manage the country budget and ensure effective use of resources 
  • Ensure compliance with organisational policies, SOPs and other relevant guidelines 
  • Monitor financial and operational performance

4. Program Implementation

  • Ensure effective implementation of programmes and activities across Tanzania 
  • Oversee sales, programme and operational performance, identify gaps and drive improvements
  • Use data to monitor performance, identify gaps, and drive improvements

6. External Relationships

  • Represent Solar Sister Tanzania and build strong relationships with government, donors, partners, and other stakeholders 
  • Identify and strengthen partnerships that support Solar Sister’s growth and impact

7. Culture & Communication

  • Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement
  • Ensure clear and effective communication across Tanzania and the Solar Sister leadership team 

8. Other Responsibilities

 Undertake other responsibilities as reasonably required to support the effective delivery of Solar Sister’s strategy and country objectives.

h. Solar Sister is a social enterprise operating a hybrid model. We’re a nonprofit organization with a business-minded approach; i.e we use a commercial strategy to achieve social impact. 

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Degree in Business, Operations Management, or a related field
  • At least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified
  • Flexibility and willingness to do a wide range of tasks
  • Strong written and oral communication skills are required. 
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, ability to prioritize tasks, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Travel required within Tanzania  up to 30% of the time

Compensation

Annual Gross Salary of between TZS 48,000,000 and TZS 54,000,000. In addition, Solar Sister offers a generous benefits package, 20 days of PTO, a 2-week office closure in December, and a flexible work environment.  Candidates will usually start at the lower end of the range.
