In November 2024, Amina Musa will mark a milestone—one year with Solar Sister—a journey she describes as “filled with constant joy and excitement.” Since joining Solar Sister in 2023 through the Acumen project, a project to uplift women affected by natural disasters, Amina has championed clean energy in her community. She says her home is filled with gratitude, as she and her family include Solar Sister in their daily prayers.
Amina, a 45-year-old mother of eight, married to a farmer, had long struggled to support her family with her small trading business. To support her family, she bought grains like beans, maize, and groundnuts from local farmers and sold them to her customers, but the demands of her large family often depleted her business proceeds, making it hard to get ahead and sustain the business.
With business training and support from her Business Development Associate, Amina has distributed over 100 lamps in her community in Taraba State. She has also managed to save enough to buy grains in larger quantities, allowing her to reach more people. Thanks to her digital training, Amina has expanded her business beyond her community, now distributing over five bags of grains regularly and is actively addressing energy poverty head-on.
“My husband is happy that I am able to support him in caring for our children. Paying their fees and making sure we have something to eat at home. Thank you Solar Sister. “
As part of the Acumen project, Amina received a smartphone that helps her advertise her solar products online, making her better known and popular in her community. The smartphone has also helped with her children’s school assignments because they can look up references online.
Amina is proud that Solar Sister has made a profound impact on her life and the life of her family, and she is deeply grateful.
