Agness Jeremia, "I feel important in my community."

September 16, 2022

Convinced that solar lamps are the way to go, Agness Lukas Jeremia, a Solar Sister customer in northern Tanzania, joined as an entrepreneur in April 2020.

One of Agness’s daily challenges was traveling miles to get water. The walking round trip took hours. One perk Agness cites as a Solar Sister Entrepreneur is that her new income enabled her to purchase an animal cart for transport, cutting the time to get water considerably.

School uniforms for her three children are now possible with her new income, and she helps her husband, a livestock trader, provide for family needs.

“I feel important in my community and free because I am earning. This work is important because it gives women respect in their communities.”

By replacing her smokey light sources with clean solar lighting, Agness says that her daily quality of life has improved. “I get to lead a clean life.”

Agness says that the training that helped her the most was solution-seeking and planning ahead.

“As a Solar Sister Entrepreneur, I can earn money and improve my community as well. My customers want and need affordable and durable products.”

Agness is proud that she can provide that to her community.
